Coralie Watanabe Prosper is a French writer and director whose work explores the fragile spaces between identity, belonging and the social structures that shape our lives. Through intimate, character-focused stories, she portrays individuals navigating worlds where personal experience often collides with cultural expectations and institutional frameworks.

Deeply influenced by her connection to Japanese culture, her films examine the encounters, sometimes unsettling, sometimes unexpected, that arise when different languages, traditions and perspectives meet. She is drawn to the complexity of human relationships and to the subtle moments where misunderstanding can become a path toward connection.

A director deeply attentive to performance and emotional authenticity, Coralie embraces a minimalist approach to filmmaking. She sees directing as a process of discovery: stripping away the unnecessary to reveal what lies at the emotional core of each story.

Her latest short film, Kotowari, was selected for the Palm Springs International ShortFest in 2025. She is currently developing her debut feature film, Wagako, produced in Japan by Bunbuku, the production company founded by Hirokazu Kore-eda.
